Omri Epstein – Piano
Mathieu van Bellen played in the small hall of the Concertgebouw in 2017 as part of the series Jonge Nederlanders, one of the rising stars grown from our own soil. Additionally in 2017, Mathieu was asked to succeed Christiaan Bor as artistic director of the Reizend MuziekGezelschap, also known as the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society. Whoever hears him talk or play is struck with the feeling that one is dealing with an “old soul.” Mathieu stays true to himself and surrounds himself with his friends in music. This attitude fits the Vriendenconcerten philosophy like a glove.
That is why we have invited this remarkable violinist to program his own concert - a violin recital- in the series. Mathieu is a great lover of the violin style from the early twentieth century. In this concert, program choices honour the inspired, elegant virtuosos of the golden period of the violin, and are highlighted with personal introductions. Plus relevant video clips will be shown via a projector on a large screen as well. At the grand piano, Mathieu’s esteemed chamber music partner Omri Epstein takes his place.
A sparkling program filled with encore-rousing pieces in a mix of virtuoso compositions and “tear-jerkers.”
